Prototype Built in 1999 That Was Ahead of Its Time
In 1999, MyNeighborSaid’s core concept was to provide an online yellow page partner with a user-generated local merchant word-of-mouth exchange platform. The concept was way ahead of its time.
There were no local merchant review sites at that time, let alone a local merchant review ASP (i.e. SaaS) model.
However, what made the MyNeighborSaid model truly innovative in 1999 was its use of social networking elements to facilitate users finding like-minded people with whom to share reviews and build trusted circles of virtual neighbors. In other words, an online model that closely replicated the way people seek and give word-of-mouth in the real, offline world.
An opportunity to disrupt the online local merchant ratings and reviews space still exists.
